Spansion has announced that the firm is expanding its design and product development in China to focus on cost-competitive serial NOR flash memory solutions for specific applications. The company has recently acquired some assets of Nantronics and plans to expand on its design talent by opening a new R&D center in Zhenjiang and Shanghai. The firm has had a systems and software engineering team in China for seven years. The Zhenjiang and Shanghai locations will primarily focus on low-density serial flash products.

"Mainland China is an important and growing market for technology talent and expanding our customer base," said Saied Tehrani, senior VP and CTO at Spansion. "The R&D expansion in China will strengthen our global talent to address the design requirements for high performance and cost competitive products and solutions across various markets."

"With the new focus on competitive serial NOR Flash, Spansion will offer a complete range of parallel and serial NOR flash memory products dedicated to enabling, storing and protecting digital content in automotive, consumer, networking, industrial and targeted wireless applications in China and throughout Asia," said SL Chan, Asia VP of sales and marketing at Spansion.
