Tekelec—developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks—announced that tier one operator KPN has deployed the Tekelec EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling System (ISS) to expand its signaling network capacity and enable the transition to an all-Internet protocol (IP) architecture.
The Tekelec EAGLE 5 ISS supports Sigtran (SS7 over IP) signaling, which is a stepping stone for migrating to IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) at the signaling layer. Sigtran provides increased capacity over IP—resulting in reduced link quantity requirements, more efficient bandwidth utilization, enhanced services and reduced transport cost.
Michael Vocke, manager, mobile network, KPN, said, “We selected Tekelec to upgrade our signaling network because of the company’s global leadership in IP signaling and integrated applications. With the EAGLE 5 ISS, Tekelec delivers a highly reliable and cost-effective solution for the transition to an all-IP mobile core network which will enable us to provide our customers with the next-generation services they require.”
Wolrad Claudy, managing director for Tekelec’s operations in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, stated, “We are delivering a roadmap for operators to advance to tomorrow’s next-generation networks while continuing to support today’s network requirements. We welcome this opportunity to continue expanding our footprint in Europe and look forward to helping KPN retain its competitive position by delivering advanced services to its customers.”
