To enable mobile phones to function not only in the mobile radio network but also in other wireless networks, several leading mobile radio companies have developed the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology under the auspices of the UMA Alliance. This technology will soon allow mobile phone calls also by means of WLAN technologies. In the meantime, UMA has been standardized by 3GPP under the designation Generic Access Network (GAN). To support mobile phone and chipset developers as well as test houses in validating such user equipment, Rohde & Schwarz has now added UMA/GAN test cases to the R&S CRTU-G protocol tester.
The registration procedure package is the first from a total of five test case packages for the UMA/GAN certification. It makes sure that the registration procedure for user equipment defined by 3GPP is carried out correctly and checks the equipment's behavior in the event of an error. For this purpose, a PC and an access point are necessary. The test cases run in conjunction with the R&S CRTU-G and integrate seamlessly into its user interface. Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) thus offers a hardware and software solution for UMA/GAN from a single source.
