NXP brings TVoM experience alive on next-generation mobile platforms

NXP Semiconductors, the independent company founded by Philips, announced the global deployment of TV-on-mobile (TVoM) with the introduction of the NXP TVoM HotPlug system solution. The system solution combines everything an OEM needs to implement TVoM functionality in tomorrow Bs cutting-edge mobile systems, including hardware, complete DVB-H and DVB-T software stacks and security. The NXP TVoM HotPlug system solution also leverages Bs highest-performance mobile multimedia processing technology; ensuring end-users receive the richest, highest-quality mobile digital broadcasts across multiple platforms including notebook PCs, smartphones and next-generation handset designs.
BAs consumer demand for advanced multimedia services such as TVoM continues to increase, bringing compelling services to market quickly and easily will prove critical for manufacturers and operators to maximize opportunity and drive average revenue per user, B said Mark Kirstein, vice president of multimedia at El Segundo-based analyst firm, iSuppli. BDesign platforms that offer integrated hardware and software, and immediate deployment, support manufacturers B demand for plug-and-play TVoM solutions with minimal customization, development or delays.
The NXP TVoM HotPlug delivers a standalone TVoM system, and enables handset manufacturers to introduce TV services by combining tuning, audio and video decoding features, connectivity and support for any DRM standard, with the power to support both DVB-H and DVB-T. Featuring the latest NXP audio and video processing technologies for enhanced picture and sound clarity, the solution also delivers reduced power consumption for longer viewing time.
Based on NXP Bs BGT215 (for Europe, Asia and the U.S.) low-power, front-end solutions for TVoM and the high-performance Nexperia mobile multimedia processor PNX4105, the TVoM HotPlug provides a system solution requiring no extra components or processing for the system baseband. The BGT215 provides the TV tuner and channel decoder/demodulator, while the PNX4105 provides the source processing, including the power to run the DVB-H/T software stack, to decode the audio and video streams and to display video on the LCD with up to WVGA resolution. Other advanced features include frame doubling and Picture in Picture, which allows two channels to be viewed simultaneously.
