Microtune, a silicon and subsystems company that designs and markets radio frequency (RF) solutions for broadband communications and transportation electronics markets, announced that LG Innotek Co. Ltd (Gwang Ju, Korea)—manufacturer of digital media, information appliance and optical components—has designed Microtune’s 3-in-1 TV tuner as core component into LG Innotek's new DVD component products.
LG Innotek has deployed Microtune’s MT2131 analog/digital/cable tuner in an ATSC Module, a tuner-demodulator subsystem, which has then been implemented into the new line of Super Multi-DVD recorders manufactured by its sister company, LG Electronics.
K.S. Park, chief research engineer for display & network division at LG Innotek, said, "LG Innotek required a tuner that not only meets our rigorous performance and reliability standards, but also addresses the digital TV transition that is occurring in the US. Using Microtune’s 3-in-1 tuner, LG was able to develop new DVD recorder subsystems that give consumers the multi-standard flexibility they need and the high-quality TV video performance that they have come to expect from LG products."
James A. Fontaine, president and CEO of Microtune, stated, "We are pleased to be working with LG Innotek and to provide a cost-efficient, flexible tuner solution to help bring the latest innovations and developments in multi-DVD recorders to the market."
