(Top News, 18 Jun 2007 )

HP leaps to the No. 1 position in Asia Pacific (inc Japan) x86 blade server factory revenues and units shipped in Q1 2007, according to IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q1 2007, May 2007 update.

In Asia Pacific (inc Japan), HP took the leading position in the x86 blade server market in the first quarter of 2007 capturing 35.7 percent factory revenue share and 40.4 percent unit shipment share. The company registered a 103.6 percent year-on-year growth in unit shipments and garnered more than 12 percentage points lead over its closest competitor in Q1 2007 as compared to the year-ago periods.

Globally, HP also consolidated its leadership position in worldwide blade server factory revenue and units shipped in the first quarter of 2007(1).

Asia Pacific customers across diverse industry segments particularly the communications, media and entertainment sector have contributed to this growth. Key countries where HP attained market share leadership in the x86 server segment in Q1 2007 in units share includes India with 71 percent, China (PRC) with 51 percent, ASEAN with 61.9 percent and ANZ with 52.9 percent. HP saw a substantial growth in HP BladeSystems in India and secured 50.8 points lead over its nearest competitor in Q1, 2007. In the same quarter (Q1, 2007), HP took 34.9 points lead over its nearest competitor in the ASEAN region.

"Our latest achievements in the blade server space highlight the tremendous market acceptance of HP's breakthrough BladeSystem c-Class architecture in the region," said Tony Parkinson, vice-president & general manager, Industry Standard Servers, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. "HP BladeSystem c-Class combines unique capabilities in virtualization, power & cooling and system management. We will continue delivering blade innovations and provide customers with a superior IT infrastructure that helps them drive better business outcomes by accelerating business growth, lowering costs and mitigating risk."
TMB Bank Public Co. Ltd, Linfox Armaguard Pty Ltd. and Singapore American School are among key customers that have enhanced their IT infrastructure through the use of HP BladeSystems.

"Our priority is to provide quality, integrated services to our customers. We therefore need servers that allow us to deliver reliability, high performance and top quality management," said Khun Saipin Kittipornpimol, executive vice-president, Information Technology Group, TMB Bank Public Co. Ltd. "HP's IT consolidation solution with HP BladeSystem server blades significantly reduced rack space, staff hours and operational and cable installation cost by 50 percent, while improving utilization and performance."

HP continues to deliver on its 'blade everything' strategy announced with the launch of HP BladeSystem c-Class in June 2006. HP's recent innovations include a new energy management system, called HP Dynamic Smart Cooling (DSC), designed to deliver 20 to 45 percent savings in cooling energy costs. The new HP Virtual Connect Ethernet and Fibre Channel virtualization modules enable administrators to wire just once and then add, replace or recover servers on the fly by simplifying network connectivity and common server management tasks across the data center.

HP's business and technology partners have further contributed to the growth of c-Class BladeSystem by offering more value to its customers. Under the umbrella of the Blade Elite Partner Program, these partners come together to build and deliver customized end-to-end solutions that address most computing needs of customers today.

Globally, HP maintained its leadership position as the No.1 blade server vendor in the first quarter of 2007 with 45.1 percent total shipment share, a year-over-year growth rate of 84.9 percent(1) . Fueled by impressive market acceptance of the HP BladeSystem c-Class architecture and the use of blades in the high-performance computing market, HP took more than five points of sequential market share at the expense of IBM and Dell in the first quarter and outpaced the worldwide blade server market as a whole.
