“Industry’s smallest” 0603(0201) Zener and Schottky diodes

( 01 Jul 2007 )

With portable devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras becoming increasingly more compact, a smaller and thinner diode package is needed. Until recently, the smallest Schottky barrier and Zener diodes available were in the 1006(0402) size. ROHM’s latest GMD2 utilizes the company’s proprietary chip device structure and precise machining technology to dramatically reduce the size and thickness, while maintaining the standard electrical characteristics. The package is 67% smaller in area and 20% thinner than the 1006(0402) size but with the same package power as both the 1006(0402) and 1406(0502) package sizes (100mW). Schottky barrier and Zener diodes will be offered in this size – both industry firsts. This package will make it possible to save even more space and increase the board density of products requiring greater compactness and thinness.
