Nujira expands operations in Pacific Rim

(Business News, 09 Jul 2007 )

Nujira has announced plans for the expansion of its activities in Japan and China.

Nujira is establishing a dedicated facility in Japan to enhance the sales and technical support it can offer to its Japanese customers. At the same time the company is expanding its sales network in China with the aim of replicating its success in Japan.

“We’re seeing tremendous traction for Nujira’s technology amongst the Japanese infrastructure vendors”, said Tim Haynes, the CEO of Nujira. “Japan is well known for being a receptive market that is quick to adopt new technologies. Japanese network operators are keen to deploy additional wireless broadband capacity, either through 3G and evolved 3G or by using WiMAX. Nujira’s technology can help these operators make significant savings in their network power consumption, through the use of dramatically more efficient RF power amplifiers”.

Haynes continued: “By establishing a dedicated facility in Japan close to our Japanese customers, we will be able to provide the local support and responsiveness they demand”.
The expansion of Nujira’s sales network in China is targeted at the many new and emerging players in the Chinese wireless infrastructure market who are very focused on fast time-to-market, but also are looking for ways to gain an advantage over the incumbent suppliers in Western markets. In addition China itself is under increasing international pressure to limit its contribution to global warming.

“China is another important market for Nujira, especially since Chinese wireless infrastructure vendors have the potential to take an increasing share of new network roll-outs around the world”, said Haynes. “Being able to provide more power-efficient, smaller and cheaper base stations through the use of Nujira’s technology is very appealing to them”.

Affirmation of Nujira’s approach came from Michael Thelander, CEO of Signals Research Group LLC, the US-based research consultancy: “Japan and China represent key markets for wireless infrastructure due to the rapid adoption of new technologies [Japan] and the overall size of the market opportunity [China]. In order to drive down network operating expenses and support the advanced requirements of emerging technologies and base station designs, improving power amplifier efficiency will be a critical requirement.”

Nujira’s ground-breaking High Accuracy Tracking (HAT) technology dynamically modulates the RF power amplifier (PA) supply voltage to provide a significant improvement in the efficiency of linear amplifiers – such as those used for W-CDMA and OFDM systems – from a typical figure of around 15% to more than 50%. HAT is the only technology that enables high PA efficiencies to be achieved for OFDM systems. Since the power consumed by the PA dominates the overall power consumption of the base station, use of the HAT technology results in significant savings in network OPEX, as well as enabling the design of smaller and more reliable base stations.
