Qimonda starts sampling of ultra-low power 512Mbit mobile-RAM in 75nm technology for mobile applications

(Top News, 17 Jul 2007 )

Qimonda AG, a leading supplier of memory products, has started the sampling of its new 512Mbit Mobile-RAM in 75nm technology. Mobile-RAM products are ultra-low power DRAMs, which can reduce power consumption by up to 80 percent compared to equivalent density standard DRAMs and mainly serve mobile applications in smart and feature phones, portable GPS devices, digital cameras and MP3 players.

Qimonda's Mobile-RAM product line combines the benefits of ultra low-power standby and operating consumption for extended battery lifetime with extra compact chip-scale packaging for space-constrained applications. These features make this product ideally suited to serve the fast growing market for ultra-low power DRAMs. Market analyst iSuppli expects an increase of 512Mbit equivalents Mobile-RAM demand from 238 million units in 2007 to 1.2 billion units in 2010 (Compound Annual Growth Rate of 71 %) (iSuppli DRAM Market Tracker Q2 2007).

Qimonda uses a specifically designed 75nm low-power trench technology platform that is the basis for an entire Mobile DRAM product family in this node. The new Mobile-RAM is available as DDR and SDR via bond option and comes with two interfaces x16/x32 and a single/dual sided pad out to fit any component, MCP (Multi Chip Package) or SIP (system in package). Qimonda’s 512Mbit Mobile-RAM offers highest quality levels for MCP and SIP solutions while at the same time targeting at lowest power consumption in order to prolong the battery life of the handheld application.

“We are very glad to introduce this multi-featured 75nm low power Mobile-RAM, which is the lead product of an entire product family following in the next six months. In addition to the core benefits of the product itself, we will complete our offering with innovative packaging and testing services to support our customers’ need for higher speeds in mobile applications,” said Ayad Abul-Ella, Vice President of Qimonda’s Consumer and Mobile Business Unit.

Samples are available as component and as KGD (Known Good Die) wafers.
