ABB has announced that Dinesh Paliwal will become President, Global Markets and Technologies, effective 1st January, 2006. The new position will be part of the company's Group Executive Committee.
The promotion is part of the company's overall strategy for 2005 - 2009 that simplifies the organization of its businesses for closer regional integration to enhance synergy and value creation. The company will dissolve the two core divisions and replace them by their respective five businesses, which will be Power Products, Power Systems, Automation Products, Process Automation and Robotics.
Fred Kindle, ABB's President and CEO, recently announced the new Group targets and outlined the strategy. "This is an evolution of our strategy, not a revolution. ABB today is in a strong position and we can look forward to sustainable and profitable growth."
Paliwal's role will be to drive the execution of the strategy across national and regional borders and facilitate the integration of marketing and technology across the organization. Paliwal will focus on tapping the growth and profitability opportunities in key regions and trade areas, including North America, the biggest market for ABB products in the world. He also will ensure that the company's expertise and resources are applied across national borders and that existing local support resources are used as effectively as possible.
Paliwal, who already is a member of the Group Executive Committee, will retain his roles as Chairman and CEO of ABB in the United States and regional manager for ABB activities in North America, where he brought operations to profitability for the first time. He also continues as Chairman of ABB Ltd. in India.
