Motricity To Power Sony Ericsson Application Shop

(Interviews, 05 Jan 2006 )

Motricity announced that it will exclusively power the Sony Ericsson Application Shop and will work closely with the Sony Ericsson developer community to provide customers with an enhanced experience and broad content catalog for Sony Ericsson's Symbian OS enabled smartphones.

The Sony Ericsson Application Shop is a valuable go-to-market channel available to any third party application developer who has developed an application for Sony Ericsson phones. The applications available for Sony Ericsson's Symbian OS-based smartphones vary from travel, education, reference, business and personal productivity to games and entertainment.

Motricity will power both the Web-based and mobile storefronts through its scalable Fuel platform, enabling Sony Ericsson to further expand its eCommerce and mCommerce capabilities.

Supporting all major manufacturers, devices and content types, Motricity's Fuel platform helps deliver the right content to the right mobile device at the right time. Using Motricity's Fuel platform, Sony Ericsson plans to more efficiently personalize, segment and target mobile content to its customers while providing a superior end-user experience.

"We selected Motricity because of its ability to provide a complete platform, with proven stability and the necessary flexibility to address the dynamic content market, aspects which are vital to be a partner of Sony Ericsson," said Ulf Wretling, Director and Head of Content Planning and Management at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. "We felt that Motricity's solution correlates very well with the objectives Sony Ericsson aims to achieve, and will help sustain Sony Ericsson's momentum in the overall Symbian market."

In addition, Motricity is working closely with Sony Ericsson Developer World to support its partners in porting their best-of-class applications to the new P990 smartphone and the UIQ 3 software platform, in order to leverage the application success of the earlier smartphone lineup and ultimately enhance the customer's experience.

"We are honored to be Sony Ericsson's choice for powering its Application Shop and furthering its mCommerce strategy. Sony Ericsson is the leader in developing innovative feature-rich mobile phones, accessories and solutions, and we are extremely proud to deliver a robust experience to its customers and to work closely with its developer community," said Ryan Wuerch, chairman and chief executive officer at Motricity. "By delivering exceptional eCommerce and mCommerce experiences to Sony Ericsson mobile customers, Motricity will be demonstrating once again the strength of its Fuel platform and services."
