Wipro Signs Global Information Technology Deals with General Motors

(Interviews, 06 Feb 2006 )

Wipro Technologies (WIT) has announced the signing of a global service contract with GM designed to integrate the company's Middleware Systems and Information Systems and Services (IS&S) software tools around the world.

The five-year agreement, terms of which were not released, was finalized in January 2006 and will be included in Wipro's future new contract totals. Through the agreement, Wipro will sustain, define, develop and deploy new Middleware Systems and IS&S Tools globally.

Commenting on the deal Sudip Banerjee, Wipro's President of Enterprise Solutions, said, "We continue to cherish our relationship with GM and are extremely pleased be selected as one of their Tier-1 suppliers for the future." N. S. Bala, Sr. VP of Wipro's Manufacturing Vertical, commented that these services will be delivered under the Integration Factory model which Wipro and GM have pioneered. The Integration Factory will be responsible for delivering Middleware and IS&S Tool Support solutions globally for GM process areas to include: Global Sales, Services and Marketing; Product Development and Engineering; Manufacturing and Quality; Global Purchasing; Business Services; GMAC; and OnStar.

Ralph Szygenda, General Motors Group Vice President and Chief Information Officer stated, "Over the past 5 years GM has had a successful relationship with Wipro. Based on this success, and Wipro's strengths, we have selected Wipro as one of the Tier-1 system integration suppliers to provide application data integration services."

To help lay the foundation for the 3rd generation outsourcing effort Wipro worked with GM and the other Tier-1 suppliers for the past 2 years as part of the team developing the standardized work processes that will provide a common approach and greater efficiency in delivering services to GM. These processes define how GM and their suppliers will run all IT services in the future. The implementation of these new standardized processes has already begun.

In addition to the global service contract that Wipro signed directly with GM, Wipro has teamed with EDS for the past year at GM during the 3rd generation outsourcing competition. Jeff Kelly, the EDS VP for the General Motors account, said, "EDS and Wipro have very synergistic capabilities and we have proven in the past that we can provide GM with superior services at competitive rates. EDS looks forward to working with Wipro in support of GM."

Commenting on the relationship with EDS, Sudip Banerjee said, "We are proud to be teamed with EDS for application development and sustainment services, and we look forward to leveraging our firms' combined synergistic capabilities to both continue and expand our commitment to support GM globally. GM continues to be a leader in information technology globalization and Wipro is pleased to be named by both GM and EDS as a supplier in the implementation of GM's 3rd generation global outsourcing effort."
