PCMCIA, a trade association in the development of standards for modular peripherals, is hosting its fifth ExpressCard interoperability event on Thursday, 20th October, 2005, at the Grand Formosa Regent in Taipei. The event follows the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) Taiwan.
The ExpressCard Standard is the latest high-performance, hardware expansion standard for desktop and notebook computers, enabling owners to add wired/wireless communications, security, multimedia, memory and storage to computers featuring an ExpressCard slot.
At this event, host systems and modules will undergo a stringent testing process to ensure they comply with the ExpressCard standard and are interoperable with compliant products. Compliant systems and modules earn the right to display the ExpressCard logo - an orange rabbit - that specifies that the product is interoperable with other ExpressCard products and offers features such as plug'n'play installation and auto-configuration.
An orientation and registration meeting will be held at 1500 hours on Wednesday 19th October at the Grand Formosa. Testing begins at 0800 hours on Thursday.
To date, 20 member companies have participated in the interoperability events, submitting more than 50 ExpressCard products, including systems, modules and components for testing.
The ExpressCard standard is the next generation of PC Card technology used in more than 95% of all notebook computers for adding new hardware capabilities. Dell, HP, Intel, Lexar Media, Microsoft, SCM Microsystems and Texas Instruments are among those supporting development of the new standard under the PCMCIA umbrella.
