Ittiam Systems' advanced digital media processing technology was recently showcased by customers and partners in the recently held International Consumer Electronics Show 2005 at Las Vegas, United States. On display was a complete form-factor reference design of a portable media player (PMPR), that offers high-quality media storage and playback, along with an audio-video streaming solution suited for desktop or portable applications.
Texas Instruments demonstrated the PMPR and the streaming media solutions. DivX Networks showcased NHJ-MPM a commercial PMPR with DivX certified Ittiam's video processing technology. In addition, DivX Networks also demonstrated a camera design with video encoding technology from Ittiam that is capable of capturing video in DivX format at VGA resolution at 30fps and MP3 audio. A range of Silisand-enabled portable media products with Ittiam technology were showcased as well. This included a video and music player from Maxian, MP-2220 and an MPEG-4 player from TGE, DVP100. Softier showcased Ittiam's video coders running on its embedded Linux OS on the TMS320DM642 platform from TI.
The Ittiam PMPR is a 140x95x28mm Linux based reference design built around the programmable multimedia processor platform TMS320DM320 from TI. It is powered by a rechargeable battery that delivers at least four hours of continuous video. Interfaces include USB 2.0, audio port for external speakers/headphone and video port for direct display on the TV. The entire unit is controlled by anavigation switch and a full-function infrared remote controller. The PMPR has a 3.5-inch QVGALCD screen showing MPEG-2, XVID,MPEG4, DivX and WMV movies at 30 fps at D1 resolution with MP3, AC3, AAC, WAV and WMA audio in stereo. The PMPR has a photo-viewer supporting JPEG images along with audio. The entire content is stored in a built-in 20GB hard disk drive.
The audio-video streaming solution is also built on TI's TMS320DM342 platform. It is an ISMA compliant Ethernet based multi-cast streaming client running on Linux and supporting RTP and RTSP. It is designed to support other transfer protocols like HTTP. It also streams MPEG-4 video at VGA resolution at 30fps at 3Mega bits per second along with MP3 audio.
