Hitachi Consulting Names Joel Hill Managing VP, Global Services

(Interviews, 30 May 2006 )

With growing momentum, marking new beginnings overseas, Hitachi Consulting, the business and IT consulting arm of Hitachi, Ltd has named Joel Hill as its new managing vice president of Global Services. Global Services will have two key areas of focus for Hitachi Consulting, and is comprised of two sub-teams, the Japan Team and the Global Solutions Center Team. The Japan Team will serve as a bridge to the recently-established Hitachi Consulting - Japan practice. Areas of team focus will include identifying global pursuit opportunities and helping coordinate staffing on global opportunities to create a single firm approach on joint pursuits with Hitachi Consulting - Japan.

In April, EXSURGE, Inc., a Hitachi Group company in Japan engaged in the consulting business, was renamed Hitachi Consulting Co., Ltd. Paul Yonamine was appointed representative director, president and CEO. The consulting resources of Hitachi, Ltd. and group companies in Japan and Asia will be consolidated in this company. This consolidation will further strengthen Hitachi's Japan and Asia-based consulting business and make it easier for Hitachi companies to work together and to serve clients together.

"We have successfully established our business and IT consulting operations in Japan and North America and have a proven track record of delivering value," Mr. Hill said. "Now, we are ready to expand our client focus with the goal of becoming the preeminent consulting partner to companies operating in Asia and North America. By integrating our established practices in North America with Hitachi's global footprint, we are poised to be a leader in helping companies succeed in the global marketplace."

The overall objective of the Global Solutions Center Team is to accelerate the use of offshore resources enabling Hitachi Consulting to deliver even greater value to its customers on large-scale systems. The Global Solutions Centers, established in India by Hitachi, Ltd. in November of 2005, provides offshore resources for a number of Hitachi companies. Hitachi Consulting is leveraging the centers in support of its Asia and European expansion.

"Joel Hill has helped lead Hitachi Consulting to an operational maturity that has enabled our rapid growth and solid profitability," said Michael Travis, president and CEO of Hitachi Consulting. "We look forward to his leadership of the Global Services team to continue our growth in operational excellence."

Mr. Hill has more than 20 years experience providing strategy, operations, and information technology consulting services to major U.S. and European companies. Prior to joining Hitachi Consulting in 2001, Mr. Hill spent seven years with Accenture and five years with McKinsey & Co. managing numerous client engagements and helping to build two industry practice units. He has worked with clients across multiple industries including transportation and logistics, energy, and banking.
