Oracle Asia Pacific has announced its first leadership changes in fifteen years. Effective June 1st 2006, Derek Williams will become Chairman of Oracle Asia Pacific and Japan. Williams named Senior Vice President Brian Mitchell to take over the day-to-day operations of Oracle Asia Pacific, excluding Japan.
"We spent the last 15 years building an Asia Pacific & Japan business that generated US$1.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2005," said Derek Williams. "I believe that our new management team has the experience and enthusiasm to build an even more successful business for Oracle in years to come."
"Oracle has considerable new market opportunities in this region," said Brian Mitchell. "Our management team, which averages more than 10 years of Oracle experience each, is well suited to pursue those opportunities." Mitchell's management team includes Senior Vice President Mark Gibbs for Applications Sales, Senior Vice President Nick Evered for Technology Sales, Senior Vice President Harry Storer for Consulting, Vice President Bronwyn Hastings for Alliances & Channels, as well as the country managing directors.
Derek Williams joined the Oracle UK office in the Fall of 1988, moving to Singapore in April 1991 to head up the then newly created Asia Pacific Division. In the 15 years since, Williams has grown the company to 67 offices in 29 countries across Asia Pacific & Japan.
Williams has played a pivotal role in building Asia Pacific & Japan into a vibrant and growing region for Oracle. Under his stewardship, Oracle has built a strong presence throughout Asia by adopting a strategy of partnering closely with local companies and providing software and support for companies of all sizes.
In addition, Williams spearheaded Oracle's strategic initiatives to leverage key market opportunities in China and India, now Oracle's fastest-growing markets worldwide.
Mitchell's new role as Senior Vice President, Oracle Asia Pacific, will extend his existing responsibilities in strategic acquisitions, business strategy & planning, and management of Oracle country offices, to also directing day-to-day operations for the region.
"I'm taking over the leadership reins at an opportune time in the company's history globally and in the region," said Mitchell. "Through our technology innovations and global acquisitions we have achieved a leadership position in the software industry. And Oracle has built a powerhouse presence in this region, with highly localized solutions that have moved us beyond the metro cities of Asia's emerging economies.
"We have a long history of working with our partners in the region. Our 1,700-large partner network will be key to our continued success, as well as our ability to jointly create rich solutions for customers," Mitchell said.
Mitchell previously held the position of Managing Director, Oracle Australia and New Zealand from December 2000-2004. He joined Oracle in January 1998 in the position of Regional Director of Sales & Marketing. Mitchell has broad experience in the hardware, software and services sectors, having spent more than 25 years in senior management roles in the IT industry in Sydney, London and the U.S.
