Cadence Design Systems, Inc. and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (Astri) have announced that Astri has chosen Cadence as a key electronic-design automation (EDA) solutions provider for all of its R&D and engineering divisions. The two companies renewed an earlier agreement whose value was not disclosed.
The agreement provides Astri access to the latest Cadence EDA design technology and services for the majority of its design needs in the area of low-power IC designs, wireless and wireline communications, advanced packaging and systems design. The agreement also extends Astri’s adoption of software and services from across the Cadence Encounter digital IC design platform, Virtuoso custom design platform, Allegro system interconnect design platform, and Incisive functional verification platform, as well as design-for-manufacturing (DFM) technologies.
"After wide-ranging and thorough technical evaluations of Cadence's product capabilities, especially in the domain of low-power designs, we felt that Cadence was able to offer the breadth of EDA technologies that meets the demands of all our R&D and engineering groups," said Raymond Chiu, vice president and R&D director of Astri. "This renewed agreement with Cadence helps us to effectively and economically achieve the best possible quality of results, optimum low-power designs, and improved time to market."
The focus of Astri’s IC Design program is to expand the technology base of Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta's (PRD) IC design industry to capture future growth opportunities presented by the worldwide semiconductor market and the China market in particular. Towards this goal, Astri has been developing complex system-on chip (SoC) designs with small form factor and low power-consumption requirements. By selecting Cadence as a key provider of EDA solutions, Astri can streamline its design technology operations and establish common tools and flows across the organization, while eliminating redundancies, increasing efficiency and minimizing costs.
"Cadence is extremely pleased to have this level of relationship with Astri and look forward to collaborating on innovative solutions for the next generation of design and manufacturing challenges," said Lung Chu, corporate vice president and president of Cadence Asia. "As complexities of designs increase, strong strategic relationships between industry leaders are the only way to enhance mutual success."
