Philips' Nexperia integrated display module for camera phones

( 01 Jun 2004 )

Royal Philips Electronics has unveiled the new Nexperia Mobile Display Module, a complete compact, plug-and-play display solution for consumer camera phones. It features the Philips Nexperia PNX4000 RAM-less Mobile Image Processor and a Philips PCF8881 single-chip thin-film transistor (TFT) color display driver.

The Nexperia Mobile Image Processor (PNX4000), a highly integrated circuit (IC) dedicated to mobile imaging, provides the imaging functions necessary to enable multimedia message service (MMS) on a wide range of mobile phones. The Nexperia Display Module optimizes the design and reduces the overall power consumption of a cellular phone in standby mode by approximately 20 to 30%. It includes common voltage modulation and interlacing schemes.

The Philips single-chip TFT color display driver also reduces power consumption by five to 10% compared to competing solutions, and offers what's said to be the industry's lowest external part count.

The Nexperia Mobile Display Module contains all camera data processing and has one single interface to the base band processor. It is easy to integrate into the overall mobile phone system and provides optimal camera/display performance.
