Cypress Semiconductor joins EEMBC as Member of Automotive/Industrial Workgroup

(Business News, 31 Jul 2007 )

The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium has announced that Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has joined EEMBC as a member of the consortium痴 workgroup focused on developing multicore and system-level benchmarks for automotive/industrial applications.

"Cypress makes a notable addition to EEMBC痴 automotive/industrial subcommittee," said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. "We're pleased to count the company among the industry leaders that have recognized the benefits of industry-standard EEMBC benchmarks for processor vendors and their customers alike. We welcome Cypress as an active participant in our work to develop EEMBC benchmarks that will support more complex processor architectures."

EEMBC's benchmarks are based on the fundamental algorithms and functions of key embedded applications, and they represent workloads that provide good metrics for comparing system performance. Next-generation EEMBC benchmarks now under development will meet the advanced needs of today's designers by addressing multicore processor implementations and the impact on performance of buses, peripherals, memory, operating systems, software drivers, and auto-code generators.

"The development of system-level benchmarks that allow engineers to make unbiased comparisons between platforms is an important activity, and we池e happy to lend our expertise to the EEMBC," said Ata Khan, vice president of technical staff at Cypress. "We have a unique perspective in this area based on the architecture of our PSoC mixed-signal arrays, which include a microcontroller core and both analog and digital programmable blocks."
