Low-power Geode LX 800 ETX Module with SATA support and soldered memory
(Technology News, 01 Aug 2007 )
ADLINK Technology Inc. has announced the release of a new, low-power ETX-GLX Computer on Module. The Computer on Module concept of off-the-shelve core modules, combined with custom made carrier boards, dramatically reduces product development time and time-to-market. With all major functions already included on the module, system developers and OEMs can now concentrate on the core competencies and unique system values of their products. The ETX form factor is competitively priced for OEM projects with production quantities ranging from 500 to 50,000 pieces.
The new ETX-GLX targets markets for medical automation, gaming, instrumentation, POS, mobile computing and transportation where low power, medium performance and extended graphic support is required.
The ETX-GLX, based on AMD’s Geode LX 800 processor and CS5536 companion chipset, constitutes an ideal balance between computing performance and low power consumption. This module supports up to 1 GB DDR400 RAM in a single SODIMM socket or can optionally be equipped with 128 MB or 256 MB DDR400 memory soldered on the module. The ETX-GLX supports advanced display features such as high resolution analog CRT monitors up 1920 x 1440 and single or dual channel 24-bit LVDS panels at a maximum 1600 x 1200 resolution. This module can optionally be equipped with an advanced TV encoder chip from Focus Enhancements that supports both standard and high definition TV output, The Focus FS 455 supports a variety of TV standards, from NTSC to PAL at resolutions of 480p, 720p, and 1080i.
The ETX-GLX further incorporates an Intel based 10/100Base-T Ethernet port, an PATA EIDE controller supporting both PIO and UDMA modes, a dual port SATA controller, four USB v2.0 ports, two serial ports, one parallel port (SPP/ECP/EPP) shared with FDD, one PS2 keyboard/mouse interface, an AC97 audio interface, and power management functionality.
The ETX-GLX has full support for PCI and legacy ISA, and comes with embedded features such as a watchdog controller, RS-232 console redirection and CMOS EEPROM backup of BIOS settings and battery-less operation. The ETX-GLX is a revision controlled product aimed at applications that require a guaranteed long production life and support.
The ETX-GLX comes with BSP support for Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, Linux, and Vxworks. Samples of the ETX-GLX are available now; full production shipping quantities start later this month. ADLINK's complete Computer on Module product family includes ETX modules for PCI/ISA oriented designs and COM Express modules for PCI Express or PCI designs with optional legacy support through LPC. For core module evaluation prototype boards in the ATX form factor are available. Most modules are supported by BSPs for Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, Linux, and VxWorks.
ADLINK provides design guides, R&D support, product review and BIOS customization for companies that are doing their own carrier board design. We also offer full development and production services for those who wish to outsource their carrier boards.
A dedicated Embedded Linux Development Kit will be available for ETX-GLX in this quarter. The software and hardware tools included in the Embedded Linux Development Kit allow a developer to set up a host-target based development system in just minutes without any peripherals or system setup on the target side.
