Bangalore: India Semiconductor Association (ISA), & the VLSI Society of India (VSI) have jointly announced the first Technovation Awards 2007. The awards aim at building and strengthening the Indian semiconductor eco-system, and encouraging the academic fraternity to participate in its development.
The chief guest Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India & DEA presented the awards recognizing the contribution of these researchers in the semiconductor space.
Prof. Krishna Saraswat, Stanford University, USA was awarded the ISA TechnoVisionary Award, a lifetime achievement award.
Prof. Jagadish Kumar, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi was awarded the ISA-VSI TechnoMentor Award for being an academic of extraordinary mentoring & research abilities.
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras & Indian Institute of Technology, Karagpur were joint recipients of the ISA-VSI TechnoShield Award. The ISA-VSI TechnoShield Award is recognition for academic institutions in India for their contribution in semiconductor research.
Dr. R. K. Sharma, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra & Mr. Syam Sundar Reddy E, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, were given ISA-VSI TechnoInventor Award for their outstanding post-graduate and doctoral research thesis.
The jury for the Technovation Awards, 2007 included eminent personalities from industry & academia across the globe. The recipients of the Awards were selected after a rigorous process of evaluation. The Awards include a trophy and monetary reward.
Ms. Poornima Shenoy, president, India Semiconductor Association, said, “The semiconductor driven industry relies on university research to take it further. India should be an active participant in this process and industry appreciates and understands this fact,” she added, “In today’s knowledge intensive world a nation’s strength lies in its capability to innovate in core technological areas. In immediate past and in the years to come, the semiconductor technology will continue to be a core technology that contributes immensely to a nation’s economic strength. Therefore, it is imperative for us to have a sustained effort and strategy to promote and propagate semiconductor research in our R & D institutions.”
These Awards are amongst the initiatives undertaken by ISA to educate talent & create awareness about the immense opportunity that rests in the semiconductor space in India.
