ZTE signs GSM expansion contract with CMPAK

(Business News, 19 Sep 2007 )

ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has just signed a contract with CMPak, one of the major telecommunications operators in Pakistan, for GSM network expansion in the country. Under the contract, the expansion includes the construction of 14 thousand carriers for radio network and 10 million lines for core network.

CMPak was formerly called Paktel prior to its acquisition by China Mobile in 2007. This project marks the first cooperation between two Chinese Telecom giants, ZTE and China Mobile, overseas.

“The partnership of two Chinese telecom providers collaborating overseas demonstrates the rapid development of China’s telecom sector and the benefits it can deliver around the globe,” said Mr. Wang Qiqiang, President of ZTE South Asia. “We look forward to further strengthening ZTE’s presence in Pakistan with this partnership with China Mobile and CMPak. ZTE will continue to look for other opportunities in the region while continuing to provide customized solutions for operators in order to help them minimize operating expenditures.”

“We are very delighted about the partnership and look forward to establishing long-term relationship with ZTE,” said Mr. Guo Yonghong, CEO of CMPAK, after the signing was completed. “We hope the collaboration between the two companies will further solidify our positions in the Pakistan market.”
According to the agreement, ZTE will provide its new generation V3 base stations for the expansion, and the core network will adopt all-IP networking mode. ZTE’s new V3 equipments have excellent coverage ability to save the correlative resource while also supporting 18TRXs per rack. The adoption of NetSpeed coverage enhanced technology enables high quality coverage in more remote areas, and the powerful Abis interface technique helps save transport resources.

ZTE has made significant global achievements recently in Colombia, Russia, India, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Algeria, etc. To date, ZTE has reached strategic cooperation partnerships with more than 50 international operators, and its GSM products have been applied in over 40 countries worldwide, with the total capacity in operation more than 90 million lines.
