Intersil Corporation and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, have launched a cooperative R&D project with the opening of a new Power Management Research Laboratory at the University. The new lab was stocked by Intersil with the latest test equipment and with a wide variety of Intersil chips. It will be managed by Professor. Zhang Junming. Intersil also presented the University with six scholarships to support graduate-level research in power management electronics.
“Zhejiang University is known for being China’s leading research institute in power electronics, which has become a high-growth, labor-intensive industry. High-quality engineers are very much in demand,” said Dr. Zhang. “The Joint Lab will be a good platform for cooperation between Intersil and Zhejiang University in power electronics research and applications. We expect the new lab will be extremely helpful in training the next generation of engineers and creating new reference designs for the industry.”
Research activities at the lab will cover all aspects of power electronics such as power management, high frequency conversion techniques, induction heating, motor drive and electrical traction, renewable energy, and numerous other applications.
“We are pleased to work with the University to provide hands-on training and practical experience to students,” said Huang Jiong, China Applications Center Manager. “Getting practice at solving real customer design puzzles will ultimately help these students become more successful when they leave the University, and Intersil will benefit from the exchange of reference designs and technical information with these talented students.”
