CSR has announced its unaudited results for the quarter ended 28 September 2007. Revenues were up to $240.1 million, 12% up year-on-year. The company's design win momentum continued apace with 97 handset and 63 headset wins in Q3 2007. Accounting for well over 20% of total revenues, CSR achieved notable design wins in non-cellular applications or non-Bluetooth segment with Microsoft, Sony, Philips and the Mio DigiWalker GPS PDA.
Maintaining dominance in cellular markets, CSR's Bluetooth is increasingly being incorporated into new build cars, Hi-Fi systems, MP3 players and toys. In addition, its Wi-Fi technology is now found in internet radios and handsets, with high growth expected in Taiwan and China in 2008.
CSR launched its latest generation of Bluetooth during Q3. BlueCore6 supports v2.1 + EDR of the Bluetooth specification and incorporates Class 1 Bluetooth without the requirement of an external amplifier. BlueCore6 is also the first implementations of CSR's proprietary AuriStream technology which provides toll quality voice while achieving 40% lower power consumption.
"The combination of in line third quarter revenues and strong gross margins led us to deliver EPS ahead of expectations," Joep van Beurden, CSR's CEO, said. "I am delighted to have joined CSR. The company is well positioned in a growing market, with a tremendous opportunity to build its scale and diversity over the coming years".
Going forward, CSR remains on track with its roadmap for new technologies. The next generation of CSR's Bluetooth will integrate Bluetooth, FM transmit and ULP (Ultra Low Power) Bluetooth. In addition, software-based GPS and UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) designed specifically for mobile applications will be provided on variants of the same family of silicon chips and are expected in 2008.
