Display manufacturers have retrenched in 2007, with reduced TFT-LCD capital investment due to oversupply and widespread losses in 2006. While Q1 06 saw oversupply and falling panel prices, Q2 06 and Q3 06 have seen tight supply for PC applications and small TV panels (up to 32 inches).
On the demand side, consumers continue to upgrade from CRT to LCD TV sets, and to larger screen sizes, with 40- and 42-inches becoming mainstream. While mobile handset display revenue growth has slowed, new applications such as digital photo frames and portable navigation devices are growing rapidly.
