With navigation shipments expected to triple between 2006 and 2012 and growth forecasts of personal navigation devices (PNDs) as high as 78% in 2007, iSuppli believes Taiwan is sitting on another consumer electronics goldmine. Taiwan ODMs and EMS providers such as Mitac, Quanta, and Inventec will produce over 50% of the PNDs sold into Europe and the US, while US-based PND vendor Garmin will meet another 20% of the world’s demand from their production facilities in Taiwan.
Europe has traditionally been the largest GPS market accounting for 60% of global demand, however, Asia-Pacific is set to be one of the key growth areas as consumers become more affluent and car sales begin to take-off.
