Phihong’s CEC-compliant 3W linear replacement adapters cost than less conventional switching products

(Product News, 22 Nov 2007 )

Phihong, a leader in external power supplies, has expanded its line of standard unregulated adapters. The PLA03A is a lightweight and highly efficient 3W wall plug ideal for applications such as cordless headsets, Bluetooth device chargers, cell phones and other wireless communication devices.

“Phihong offers a complete range of CEC-compliant linear replacement adapters and can fulfill the OEMs’ needs for affordable and compliant adapters for mobile devices,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “The PLA series was developed as a replacement for non-compliant linear adapters at a lower cost that conventional regulated switching designs.”

Phihong is able to offer its PLA Series linear replacement adapters at a lower cost than traditional switching adapters because they have eliminated the many control and feedback components. Also, the adapter simply uses one primary control circuit.

The PLA03A measures 2.3 inches x 1.1 inches x 1.38 inches. The adapter has a wide input voltage range of 90VAC to 264VAC, is double insulated and meets safety approvals for UL/ cUL 60950-1. Short circuit protection with auto recovery allows the adapter to shut down without causing damage to the connected device. The device has zero minimum load and meets the minimum average efficiency and no-load power requirements for Energy Star and CEC Compliancy level IV.
