Hitachi hard drive business wins Lenovo Best Quality Award

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies won the Best Quality Award in Lenovo Enterprise Business Unit’s annual Supplier Awards for China. The Supplier Awards recognize companies that make outstanding contributions to Lenovo’s growing server business in China.
“This prestigious award once again reinforces our Best-in-Class position in quality,” said Robert Chu, vice president, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “Lenovo’s Best Quality Award signifies that from 2006 to 2007 Hitachi GST has delivered excellent product quality to Lenovo in China for enterprise-class hard drives. The award is testament to our world class production facility in Singapore and reflects the reliability in product quality that has set Hitachi GST apart worldwide as a leading producer of hard disk drives. It’s an important milestone as we continue to grow and expand our presence in this region.”
Hitachi GST produces the leading enterprise-class hard drives in Singapore, where a 4,000-strong employee base is responsible for the company’s global supply of server hard disk drive products. Reflecting the ongoing strength of the enterprise segment, production volumes in Hitachi GST’s Singapore plant have increased by 118% in the past four years, from 2.2 million in 2003 to 4.8 million in 2007.
The enterprise class Hitachi hard disk drives deployed by Lenovo include the following:
· Ultrastar 10K300, the world’s first 300GB enterprise hard drive, with 10,000rpm rotational speed, and Ultra320 SCSI and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel to support high data throughput · Ultrastar 15K147, offering outstanding performance for mission-critical computing environments, with mature design for greater reliability and faster qualification time
