Actel’s low power IGLOO Family wins EDN China Innovation Award

(Technology News, 06 Dec 2007 )

Validating the industry’s demand for low-power programmable solutions, Actel Corporation announced that its 5µW IGLOO field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family, the industry’s lowest power programmable logic device, has won a Leading Product Award from EDN China in the Digital IC and Programmable Logic category. The award was presented during the annual EDN China Innovation Awards ceremony in Shenzhen, Southern China on November 8.

The IGLOO family was selected as a finalist from among approximately 200 entries by a panel of industry experts and specialists from leading OEM companies and academic institutions in China. However, it was qualified EDN China readers who chose the IGLOO family as a winner via online voting. This is the third consecutive year that Actel has won a Leading Product Award from the publication, and the fifth overall industry recognition for the IGLOO family announced in August 2006.

Actel has recently announced complementary innovations that reinforce the suitability of the low-power IGLOO family for developing portable products — from an optimized ARM Cortex-M1 processor and power-optimized design tools to complementary IP solutions and the industry’s first 4x4 mm package for a programmable logic device.

About IGLOO

Featuring up to 3,000,000 system gates, the flash-based 5µW IGLOO FPGA family supports unique low-power states, such as Actel’s innovative Flash*Freeze mode, which stops the clocks, puts the I/Os into a know state and reduces power dramatically while preserving the state of SRAM and registers. IGLOO devices enter and exit Flash*Freeze mode within 1µs under the control of a single pin, allowing for dramatic system power savings to be quickly and easily achieved. The IGLOO family offers up to 616 user I/Os, six phase-locked loops (PLLs), 504kbits of RAM and 350MHz performance in both commercial and industrial grades. Actel offers the feature-rich IGLOO family in 8x8 mm, 5x5 mm and 4x4 mm packages.
