Maxim Integrated Products’ MAX9796 2.3W is a Class D audio subsystem that combines a high-efficiency, mono Class D amplifier; a DirectDrive stereo headphone amplifier; and a DirectDrive mono receiver amplifier. By using Maxim's patented, DirectDrive architecture, the receiver and headphone amplifiers produce a ground-referenced output from a single supply, thus eliminating the need for large, DC-blocking capacitors. To further save cost and space, the MAX9796 utilizes Maxim's patented, active-emissions-limiting (AEL) circuitry and spread-spectrum-modulation technique, which greatly reduce EMI and eliminate the output filters typically required by Class D amplifiers. Providing what’s said to be the industry's highest output power and enabling the smallest total solution, the MAX9796 is ideal for cellphones, portable media players (PMPs), handheld gaming consoles, and other applications in which high audio quality, output power, and efficiency are paramount.
