Vector Informatik adopts Altera Cyclone III FPGAs for network interface product line

(Technology News, 26 Dec 2007 )

Vector Informatik is adopting Altera Corp.'s low-cost, low-power Cyclone III FPGAs for its network interface product line. Enabling automotive network designers to interconnect their PCs with CAN, LIN, FlexRay or MOST bus systems, Vector Informatik Network Interface products are utilized in the development, analysis and optimization of electronic networks.

“The low power consumption and package flexibility of Cyclone III FPGAs combined with Altera’s impressive offering of automotive-certified intellectual property was the driving force behind our selection of the Altera solution,” said Rainer Zaiser, global product line manager at Vector. “Also, by joining Altera’s Cyclone III early access program, we gained advanced knowledge of these new FPGAs ahead of their public release and accelerated the timelines for our next-generation products.”

Vector is using the Cyclone III FPGAs to implement network interfaces and the proprietary protocols to communicate with the host system that runs their software diagnostic tools. Vector’s Network Interface product line includes a wide variety of USB-, PCI-, PXI-, PCI Express- (PCIe-), and PCMCIA-based interface solutions for many automotive network protocols, including CAN, LIN, FlexRay and MOST.

“The cost, density, flexibility and power consumption advantages of the Cyclone III family have proven to be an attractive solution for customers,” said Luanne Schirrmeister, director of marketing, low-cost products at Altera. “Vector is harnessing these advantages to quickly bring new advanced features to its customers and provide even greater value.”
