SIA raises 2007 semi sales estimate

(Business News, 07 Jan 2008 )
By Ann Steffora Mutschler, Senior Editor -- Electronic News

Reflecting upward revisions in DRAM sales data for January through September 2007 by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has revised its worldwide semiconductor sales figures for the year 2007.

For the period from January through November 2007, DRAM sales have been raised by $1.35 billion, which is 4.8 percent higher than previously reported.

As a result, for the same time period, total semiconductor sales are now $1.35 billion or 0.6 percent higher than previously reported. Also, the SIA noted that January through November 2007 sales are running 3.4 percent ahead of the same time period in 2006.

The SIA said total semiconductor sales for November 2007 totaled $23.12 billion, up from $23.07 billion, as previously reported. October semiconductor sales are now reported as $23.02 billion, up from the $22.92 billion previously reported. DRAM sales for November and October were $2.25 and $2.46 billion, respectively.

December 2007 sales figures and full year 2007 data is set to be released by the SIA on January 31.

This boost in DRAM sales figures should help the SIA meet its forecast, which it said Monday would be difficult to meet without strong December sales.
