RMI and Dolby Labs collaborate on Dolby Mobile

(Business News, 26 Feb 2008 )

RMI Corporation, a leading supplier of Processor Based Solutions for networking, communications and consumer applications, and Dolby Laboratories, Inc., have announced an agreement to integrate Dolby Mobile, a portfolio of audio enhancement technologies which delivers rich, vibrant audio and surround sound, into RMI’s Alchemy Au1200 Processor Family for portable media players to enhance the entertainment experience on portable media players.

The relationship between Dolby Laboratories and RMI Corporation began with the integration of Dolby Digital technology in RMI’s software platform. This announcement makes both Dolby Mobile and Dolby Digital available in the future as part of the RMI Alchemy Au1200 Processor Family Software Development Kits (SDK).

Dolby Mobile complements the Au1250 Processor’s exceptional video decode performance to deliver enhanced audio and surround sound experiences from portable media players. And, because Dolby Mobile enhances the listening experience from almost any of the Au1250 Processor’s supported video formats, consumers can take advantage of the enhanced audio processing whether they are watching their favorite movie, television program or just listening to music.

RMI’s Au1200 Processor Family meets the needs of consumer media applications by offering a high-performance, low-power processor capable of delivering a rich multimedia experience to end users under a 1/2 watt (450mW). The Au1200 Processor Family consists of the Au1200, the Au1210 and the Au1250, media processors targeted for full-featured Portable Media Players, Personal Navigation Devices (PND) and MobileTV. The RMI Alchemy product line provides system designers an easy-to-use, simple solution to create full-featured consumer solutions with greatly reduced design cycle times.
