Avago Technologies intros new family of tricolor Blackbody surface mount LEDs for full color indoor signs and display applications

Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today introduced a new family of high-brightness Blackbody tricolor surface mount (SMT) LEDs for use in indoor full color signs and displays. Available in an industry standard PLCC-4 package, Avago痴 ASMT-QTC0 LED offers a wide 115-degree viewing angle, and extreme contrast and sharpness to enhance short distance viewing in a variety of indoor full color displays. Moreover, this new Blackbody LED family incorporates additional heat sinking capabilities to enable the LED to be driven at high drive currents. As a result, this new Blackbody LED can operate in a wide range of environmental conditions to provide customers with high reliability.
Avago痴 compact ASMT-QTC0 package is specially designed to meet indoor LED screen specifications, which are often viewed at close distances and requires high brightness, high contrast and low heat dissipation to avoid the need for cooling fans in the display. For most indoor LED screens, the minimum brightness requirement is close to 600 candelas per square meter (nits). With dimensions of 3.4 mm by 3.2 mm by 2.0 mm, the ASMT-QTC0 family incorporates silicone material to extend light output performance over time. Moreover, with a moisture sensitivity level of 2a (MSL 2a) this Blackbody LED is ideal for use in SMT production environments.
Just as LED video screens have made an impact in the outdoor display market over the past few years, the number of full color indoor displays being installed in shopping malls, grocery stores, convention centers, and sports arenas to entertain, market products or provide useful information to the public has increased significantly. Moreover, the trend in the indoor display industry is moving towards smaller screen sizes which in turn require a smaller pixel pitch for better screen resolution and higher contrast. Avago痴 ASMT-QTC0 was specifically designed to meet these lighting design requirements.
