SigmaTel unveils complete processor reference solution for portable GPS market
(Technology News, 30 Apr 2008 )
SigmaTel has introduced a complete processor solution for the portable navigation GPS market, enabling lower system costs for portable navigation devices (PNDs) and expanding the company's consumer product platform offerings.
The SigmaTel STMP3738 semiconductor solution is a highly-integrated SoC which eliminates up to 12 previously-discrete ICs typically found in PNDs. Supporting WinCE5, WinCE6 and Linux operating systems, the STMP3738, allows customers to quickly develop and introduce PND products into the market at attractive price points.
The 90nm STMP3700 family uses an ARM9 processor coupled with on-chip audio and power management functions. Unlike other ARM9 based ICs, the SigmaTel device integrates the analog functions on the same silicon die as the processor. In addition, the power management functions, typically spread across several analog ICs, are also integrated into the STMP3738 resulting in significant overall cost savings.
