Tatung & NEC passed verification acceptance for the M-Taiwan WiMAX System in HuaLien

(Business News, 03 Jun 2008 )

NEC Corporation has announced that its WiMAX system supplied to Tatung InfoComm of Taiwan has successfully passed the acceptance test conducted by Taiwan's Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (herein after called IDB).

NEC received an order from Tatung InfoComm in December 2007, and supplied mobile WiMAX systems consisting of base stations along with peripheral equipments.

The Acceptance test passed by IDB means that the WiMAX system is an acceptable system (passed all the requirements defined under M-Taiwan regulations) and it is the first Acceptance to pass IDB's test of the M-Taiwan Projects in terms of WiMAX Forum 802.16e standards.

The systems supplied by NEC to Tatung InfoComm have achieved the criteria of the Acceptance test which include but not limited to the criteria in the CPE UL/DL Throughput, BS Sector Throughput, and VoIP over WiMAX.

All the above tests are technologically critical for WiMAX system to be more advanced than current wireless communication such as GSM/GPRS, 3G mobile networks (W-CDMA/cdma2000). The WiMAX focuses on ultra high speed data transaction and is absolutely mandatory to achieve the above figures to be commercially viable.

In August 2007, WiMAX commercial licenses were issued to six operators in Taiwan, including Tatung InfoComm by NCC. Tatung started its process to select the equipment supplier for the system and NEC was chosen as its partner through its pioneering effort. NEC dedication to implement the field trial of mobile services like Remote Care and Tourism Portal in Hua-Lien since early 2007 with Tatung has been a key success factor.

NEC believes its contribution to the implementation of the trials and the advanced technology including high reliability of its system has clearly proved NEC's position in the field of WiMAX, thus resulted in the Verification Acceptance of IDB. NEC will further expedite its global expansion of WiMAX by leveraging its WiMAX experience and by accumulating successful results in the global market.
