OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announces breakthrough LED
(Technology News, 26 Jun 2008 )
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has announced the formation of a new partnership with Shenzhen SED Industry Co., Ltd. to launch an LED street lamp project in Mainland China. The project will make use of OSRAM’s Golden DRAGON® with lens high performance LEDs – a landmark product in the evolution of street lighting. The lamps have already firstly installed at one of the roads in Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park.
Shenzhen SED, a subsidiary of the state-owned China Electronics Corporation, is a key manufacturer involved in the design, development, production and sales of LED street and tunnel lighting fixtures. Their LED street lamps and tunnel lamps are all with OSRAM’s Golden DRAGON with lens.
The groundbreaking street lamp project is expected to pave the way for more LED street lighting partnerships across the Asia Pacific region, where awareness of the energy-saving benefits of LED lighting is growing. Mainland China is especially committed to energy-saving lighting solutions. In China, the Ministry of Science and Technology is pushing to replace traditional incandescence lighting with more energy-efficient LED alternatives and has set an objective of achieving RMB260 billion in energy savings by the year of 2015.
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has long been a pioneer in LED technology and is one of the frontrunners in the development of future technologies and products and has received many awards for technical innovation.
The LED street lamps for the project with Shenzhen SED will make use of Golden DRAGON with lens LEDs, part of OSRAM’s Dragon family of LED lights. Emitting maximum light from the smallest possible source, these LEDs offer excellent brightness over a full-color spectrum, consume 80% less electricity and can last for up to 50,000 hours (vs. 1,000–2,000 hours for incandescence lamps).
