Moxa’s EDS-200A Unmanaged Ethernet Switch Offers Good Flexibility and Redundancy

(Product News, 06 Aug 2008 )

Moxa has introduced its new series of industrial unmanaged Ethernet switches, the EDS-200A Series. These switches are said to be one of the most reliable unmanaged Ethernet switches on the industrial market today. The series includes both 5 and 8-port models that come with a rugged, IP30 protected, aluminum housing, and redundant dual power inputs with 9.6 to 60 VDC or 18 to 30 VAC to give users greater flexibility for a variety of industrial applications. In addition, the wide operating temperature range (-10 to 60°C) and DIN-rail or wall mounting capability make the plug-and-play EDS-200A Ethernet switches suitable for industrial Ethernet applications.

Wide Power Input Range
The EDS-200A series provides redundant dual power inputs and can operate on either 12/24/48 VDC (9.6 to 60 VDC) or 18 to 30 VAC. Supporting such a wide range of power inputs makes the switches suitable for a variety of industrial applications. The two power inputs can be connected simultaneously to live AC or DC power sources. If one of the power inputs fails, the other live source enhances system reliability by backing up the Ethernet switch’s power needs automatically.

Aluminum Casing Protection
The aluminum housing with industrial IP30 protection is great for thermal conductivity since aluminum has better heat dissipation properties than steel. “Developing a good design for dealing with heat dissipation is very important for electrical products deployed in harsh industrial environments, which are often subject to abnormally high temperatures due to a lack air conditioning or poor ventilation. The EDS-200A’s aluminum housing provides an efficient means of removing heat, and goes a long way to ensuring that your network operation is reliable,” said Jerry Sun, Moxa product manager.
