Solomon Systech Introduces MagusCore Multimedia Processor

(Product News, 06 Aug 2008 )

Solomon Systech has announced the MagusCore SSD1933 multimedia processor packing an ARM926EJ-S core and an AV-DSP core on a single chip. The SSD1933 is suitable for applications such as mobile digital TV (MDTV), portable media players (PMP), personal navigation devices (PND), smart mobile phones and mobile internet devices that demand a low-cost, high performance solution for power-sensitive multimedia devices.

Dual-core Architecture

The dual-core distributed architecture of SSD1933 is optimized to deliver superior performance yet ultra-low power consumption in multimedia acceleration compared with the traditional single CPU approach. The AV-DSP core offloads the ARM core from computation-intensive multimedia processing to extend battery life and free the CPU for general purpose applications and OS support.

Mobile Digital TV

The SSD1933, with support of the high-performance AV-DSP core, is capable of decoding video in MPEG-2 standard up to D1 (720x576) resolution at 30fps. Combined with the MPEG-2 Transport Stream Interface (TSI), the SSD1933 offers the ideal solution for multi-standard mobile digital TV. The SSD1933 also supports a wide range of video formats including H.264, MPEG-4, WMV/VC-1, RMVB and H.263 up to D1 resolution to provide a rich multimedia entertainment experience.

Connectivity

With its broad array of peripheral connectivity, including SD/SDIO/MMC, USB 2.0 OTG, MLC NAND Flash and mobile DDR SDRAM, the SSD1933 is highly flexible to meet any design constrains. In addition to a camera interface and 24-bit LCD interface, the SSD1933 integrates a 10-bit NTSC/PAL encoder for high-quality video and photo capture and playback.
