Digi International has introduced the Digi Transport family of enterprise class, multi-function cellular routers. Certified by Verizon Wireless in the U.S., Digi Transport routers feature advanced routing, state-of-the-art security and integrated primary DSL and backup cellular interfaces. The routers also feature synchronous protocol support for retail and financial devices such as automated teller machines (ATMs) and lottery machines. The Digi Transport family was developed using technology gained through the acquisition of UK-based Sarian Technologies, a leader in high-end cellular routers in Europe.
Verizon Wireless is the first carrier to certify the Digi Transport family in North America. Anthony Lewis, vice president for open development at Verizon Wireless, said, "Digi Transport routers stand ready to fulfill a clear demand for enterprise class cellular connectivity. Coupled with our high-speed wireless network, Digi Transport routers provide an ideal solution for both remote primary and backup enterprise applications. Digi certified its technology through our new open development business. This new business unit encourages the development and certification of innovative products, applications and services. We have a long relationship with Digi and look forward to expanding that relationship in the future."
While Digi's existing ConnectPort(TM) WAN and Digi Connect(R) WAN cellular router families are well suited for remote device management and telemetry applications, Digi Transport products offer a new level of routing capabilities ideal for enterprise-class applications. The Digi Transport family includes the Digi Transport WR, Digi Transport DR and Digi Transport SR. All models offer advanced routing and firewall/security features including stateful firewall inspection and integrated VPN. Enterprise-class protocols include BGP, OSPF and VRRP+, a Sarian patented technology that builds upon the popular VRRP fail-over standard which provides true auto sensing, auto failure and auto recovery of any line drop. All products also offer serial, USB and Ethernet interfaces.
The Digi Transport WR is extremely flexible with options including multiple synchronous/asynchronous ports, GPS, an I/O port and more. The Digi Transport DR focuses on a "branch-in-a-box" strategy with primary and back-up connectivity all-in-one, including a four-port Ethernet switch, integrated DSL, Wi-Fi and PSTN modem options. The Digi Transport SR includes an integrated Ethernet switch, synchronous/asynchronous ports and an optional PSTN modem for failovers.
Digi Transport routers also feature remote management software for easy setup, configuration, reporting and monitoring of large installations. The routers also support a custom scripting development platform allowing users to easily create applications running directly in the router.
