New Connectors are 71% Lighter, 52% Smaller than Comparable Devices

(Product News, 26 Nov 2008 )

ITT Interconnect Solutions has developed a family of miniature circular connectors with similar electrical and mechanical characteristics to larger, heavier MIL-DTL-38999 connectors. Designated the Trinity MKJ Series, the connectors are up to 71% lighter and 52% smaller than comparable devices, and feature size 23 pin and socket contacts that have the equivalent electrical performance of size 22 contacts, reducing contact spacing to 0.193mm.

Combining design, functionality and flexibility to suit a broad range of applications including industrial, military and aerospace, the MKJ Series connectors are available in four versions. The MKJ0 connector is ideal for every day operation where size and weight are at a premium; the MKJ1 is optimized for harsh shock and vibration environments; the MKJ3 can be fully mated in a quarter turn; and the MKJ4 has a quick push/pull mating and unmating mechanism for fast breakaway connections.

All connectors in the Trinity MKJ connector family can be mated up to 2,000 times. Coupling mechanisms can be selected from a choice of threaded, breakaway and bayonet styles. A Pogo Pin technology utilizing ITT"s unique spring probe pin/touch pad contact system is also available.

The MKJ Series connectors are offered with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) inserts that can hold 3 to 85 size 23 rear-release beryllium copper crimp contacts accommodating #22 to #28 AWG wire. A rear fluorosilicone wire seal grommet provides a strong environmental seal, and excellent interface sealing is achieved with a pin fluorosilicone interfacial seal. All MKJ Series connector shells and jam nuts are available in aluminium alloy per ASTM B 211 / ASTM B 221 or corrosion resistant steel per AMS-QQ-S 763. The connectors have a rear accessory thread or integral band platform for direct attachment of the cable shield and overmold.

The MKJ Series receptacles are available with a variety of mounting options for both crimp and PC board contacts, including in-line, jam nut, front mount, square flange mount and flange mount. The MKJ0, MKJ1 and MKJ3 versions feature a master key and two secondary keys for positive mating, with four key positions available. Dielectric withstanding voltage at sea level is 500VAC RMS, 60Hz. Operating temperature ranges from -55°C to +150°C.
