Tranzeo Wireless Technologies Inc. has signed an agreement to jointly develop WiMAX subscriber units for the Indonesian market with PT. Teknologi Riset Global (TRG), a subsidiary of the Indonesian Tower Group, one of the leading telecommunication infrastructure providers in Indonesia.
The agreement establishes a foundation for Tranzeo and TRG to collaborate on the development of WiMAX subscriber units based on the 802.16d standard to be incorporated into TRG's total WiMAX solution for the Indonesian market. With the impending release by the Indonesian government of spectrum at 2.3GHz and 3.3GHz for WiMAX broadband services, the two companies are developing WiMAX subscriber units specifically for the unique requirements of the Indonesian market.
Indonesia is emphasizing local content in telecommunication equipment to spur the country's economic development. The collaboration between Tranzeo and TRG will combine world class radio expertise from Tranzeo with TRG's system expertise to satisfy the local content requirements.
With a population of 237 million people of which an estimated 10 percent are Internet users and only 1.5 million have broadband access, WiMAX is expected to see rapid adoption.
