Ubiquisys Joins Forces with Percello to Deliver Next Generation of Residential and Business Femtocells

(Technology News, 20 Jan 2009 )

Ubiquisys, a supplier of 3G Femtocells, and Percello, a UMTS/LTE femtocell SoC vendor, have announced that the companies are working together to integrate SoC technology into the Ubiquisys ZoneGate femtocell. Percello will become a strategic supplier to Ubiquisys, opening up a new semiconductor supply channel for the company.

Percello has been working with Ubiquisys since January 2008 to ensure that their low-cost high-performance baseband processor fully supports the advanced functionality of the ZoneGate femtocell. These advanced functions, such as the cognitive radio technology that provides smart interference management, are a pre-requisite for commercial mass deployment.

“Percello’s PRC6000 offers high levels of integration and performance, it supports our femtocell’s advanced features, and it does all this with low power consumption and at the right price,” said Ubiquisys CEO Chris Gilbert. “We are delighted to be working with a company of Percello’s calibre as femtocells enter the mass deployment phase.”
“Ubiquisys, acknowledged as the leading femtocell vendor, is an excellent partner for Percello to drive aggressively into the femtocell market,” said Shlomo Gadot, Percello CEO. “Ubiquisys has the most mature femtocell software stack, which has helped us accelerate the development of the PRC6000’s advanced features.”

“I am glad that the investment of the T-Mobile Venture Fund in both companies led to such an efficient type of collaboration. It supports our femtocell strategy and it drives the entire industry forward,” said Joachim Horn, T-Mobile CTO and member of the Investment Committee of the T-Mobile Venture Fund.

A femtocell is a small cellular access point, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments. It connects to the service provider’s network through the consumer’s DSL, cable or fiber optic broadband connection and allows service providers to extend service coverage and capacity indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable. The consumer will benefit from excellent mobile coverage, bandwidth and additional services at landline rates.
