Advantech has announced support for the OCTEON II Processors from Cavium Networks. The two companies will collaborate to develop optimized multicore solutions for telecommunications and networking industries worldwide.
As a Cavium PACE (Partnership to Accelerate Customer End-solutions) member, Advantech is developing next generation blade and network application platforms based on a common OCTEON II architecture. With an emphasis on facilitating software re-use on both blades and server-level products, Advantech enables OEM customers to scale their product offering for deployment across both enterprise and telecom markets. Current development work is focused on multiprocessor scalability for 10 GigE packet processing.
Advantech plans to sample products later this year based on the Cavium Networks OCTEON II Internet Application Processor (IAP) family to OEMs who are designing the next generation of hyper-networks. Target OEMs are those serving enterprise, data center, access and service provider markets all of which require augmented support for converged data, voice and video. Advantech OCTEON II-based designs are being designed to serve as OEM platforms for end-products such as routers, security gateways, 3G, WiMAX and LTE equipment, session border controllers, application delivery switches and service control engines amongst others.
The OCTEON II family integrates up to 32 MIPS64 cores, up to 75 Application Acceleration Engines for quality of service, packet processing, TCP, compression, encryption, RAID, de-duplication and regular expression processing, up to 400Gbps of DDR3 memory bandwidth, and up to 100Gbps of network connectivity while consuming only 2W to 60W across the entire family.
