LC EMI/ESD Filter Arrays Offer <1db Input Loss

(Product News, 11 May 2009 )

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has released two four-and eight-channel LC EMI/ESD filter arrays that come in ultra-compact LLP1713 and LLP3313 leadless packages and have an input loss <1dB. With a low profile of 0.6mm, the VEMI filter arrays are designed to save board space and provide EMI filtration and ESD protection for embedded cameras and LCDs in portable gaming systems, PDAs, mobile phones, and any other system designed to receive RF signals in the 800MHz to 2.4GHz frequency range. The low-pass filter in the VEMI arrays allows low-frequency signals to pass through with very low attenuation, while high-frequency signals, such as the carrier frequency of mobile communications systems, are shorted to ground.

The new filters include the four-channel VEMI45LA-HNH in the LLP1713 package, and the eight-channel VEMI85LA-HGK in the LLP3313 package. The new devices feature typical cut-off frequencies of 150MHz, a low line resistance of 12Ω, and line inductance of 10nH. The VEMI45LA-HNH and VEMI85LA-HGK provide transient protection for data lines as per IEC 61000 4 2 (ESD) at ±25kV (air and contact discharge) and IEC 61000 4 5 (lightning) from 4A. The lead (Pb)-free filters are compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC and feature an environmentally friendly molding compound.
