Avnet Electronics Marketing Tops the Lists in Distributor Customer Preference Study

(Business News, 11 Jun 2009 )

Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia, a business region of Avnet Inc., has taken three top awards in the latest nationwide survey carried out by Electronics Supply & Manufacturing (ESM) China magazine. Avnet Electronics Marketing was top of the list in the Most Preferred Overseas Distributors in China, Best Supply Capacity and Best Technical Support categories. Avnet Electronics Marketing also made the top five list in the Best Volume Order Flexibility category.

The survey, which is conducted annually, analyzed China manufacturers’ preferences and the way they choose their preferred electronics components distributors. It interviewed purchasing executives throughout the country who were jointly responsible for buying billions of RMBs worth of components in the last year, the majority of which were purchased through distributors.

More than 50 percent of the 1,200 submissions that ESMC received were from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or original design manufacturers (ODMs). Faced with ever increasing competition and shorter product life cycles, electronics manufacturers are continuously pressuring distributors with changing requirements. In the case of “preferred distributors,” the top three selection criteria were product quality, supply capacity and reputation.

“Avnet Electronics Marketing is thrilled to receive this award which provides independent verification of what we have always felt is important to our customers – quality, capability and credibility. In the current challenging conditions, these factors are more important than ever as is choosing a reliable partner who can ensure a stable and flexible supply of components,” said Frederick Fu, Regional President of Avnet Electronics Marketing China.

“At Avnet Electronics Marketing we are committed to customer service. That means leveraging our inventory systems and supply chain solutions and responding flexibly to the changing needs of customers and suppliers at every opportunity,” he added.

In the most preferred value-added service category, the survey found that manufacturers base their selections on three overriding criteria – technical support, small quantity ordering and payment flexibility.

“Again, Avnet Electronic Marketing scores high in all three criteria. Technical support is one of our core strengths, and it’s something that is in even higher demand during the current market slowdown when some suppliers have streamlined their resources,” said Victor Koh, Regional President of Avnet Memec China. “Avnet Electronics Marketing has maintained a high FAE-to-FSE ratio to ensure we are able to provide fast, first-class onsite engineering support to customers. We also leverage the industry-leading capabilities of our Avnet Design Services team to provide a variety of reference designs and production-ready solutions for different market segments which can help our customers reduce their time-to-market.”

A recent example is the opening of a new IO lab in Shanghai that provides support to Avnet Electronics Marketing customers for testing and debugging, offering a one-stop-shop as well as a broad range of product offerings.
