Azores Adds Optics Expert to its Ranks

(Business News, 02 Jul 2009 )

Azores Corp., one of the leading manufacturers of advanced photolithography steppers for mobile display and x-ray sensor applications, has announced the addition of optics expert James E. Webb as Technology Director. Webb boasts over three decades of experience in optical engineering, opto-mechanical design, lens assembly, and technical sales and marketing.

Webb’s experience in optical design and manufacturing will prove invaluable to Azores’ future product development as the company continues to engineer industry-leading photolithography steppers with world-class optical lenses at their core. Since 2007, Webb offered his knowledge and guidance while serving as Azores’ Technical Advisory Board Director.

Prior to joining Azores, Webb spent more than 30 years at Corning Tropel Corp. His responsibilities ranged from managing engineering and final phase manufacturing operations to, most recently, directing the optical design, engineering, and illumination instrumentation team for optical systems used in the flat panel display industry.

In April 2007, Webb’s achievements at Corning Tropel were acknowledged when he was granted the Senior Engineering Associate Award due in part to his ability to recognize a significant opportunity in liquid crystal display (LCD) lithography by working with Azores. This helped position Corning Tropel as the preferred optics supplier for Azores’ photolithography steppers. Webb is widely published and holds multiple patents.

“I worked with Jim for many years while he was at Corning Tropel and truly value his professionalism and command of optical design and manufacturing,” said Elvino da Silveira, President and CEO of Azores. “Apart from gaining an acknowledged expert in optics, his prior experience with Azores’ photolithography systems will allow him to enhance our team and be an invaluable part of our future product development.”
