Two of ANADIGICS Inc.'s WCDMA power amplifiers (PAs) have been chosen by Samsung to power its new Omnia HD and Memoir 3G handsets. ANADIGICS' AWT6224 3G power amplifier device has been selected for use in Samsung's full touchscreen Omnia HD, the world's first mobile handset to offer HD video recording, while the AWT6282 has been chosen to power the 8-megapixel Memoir handset.
Launched in May 2009 in Asia and Europe, the Omnia HD is already one of Samsung's top selling phones. In addition to being the first mobile handset to offer 720p 23fps HD video recording, the Omnia HD features a 3.7in, full touchscreen display and supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operations. Samsung's Memoir, which was first announced at this year's Mobile World Congress, is a 3G, full touchscreen handset that closely resembles a point and shoot camera in both design and functionality. As well as capturing 8 megapixel images, the Memoir offers 16x digital zoom, five different shooting modes, and is driven by Samsung's new TouchWiz user interface.
Both WCDMA PAs from ANADIGICS' leverage the Company's advanced InGaP HBT MMIC technology to offer industry leading levels of linearity, output power and efficiency. The AWT6224 (used in the Omnia HD) is a 3x5x1mm 900/IMT Dual-Band PA which addresses the demand for increased integration in dual-band handsets for EGSM network deployments. The AWT6282 (used in the Memoir) is a 4x4x1.1mm AWS band PA developed for WCDMA handsets.
