Ikanos Communications Inc., a provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, has appointed DSL technologist and pioneer Debajyoti "Debu" Pal to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.
"Debu is an expert in developing innovative xDSL technologies and possesses a depth of experience in the communications market that few can match," said Michael Gulett, President and CEO of Ikanos. "Under Debu's leadership we expect to expand our technical initiatives and accelerate the development of semiconductor and software products that enable the delivery of broadband throughout the digital home."
A 27-year veteran in the communication and semiconductor industry, Pal has extensive experience identifying and developing new technologies and products, and a proven record of successfully bringing products from concept phase to product delivery. Prior to joining Ikanos, Pal spent over five years at Tallwood Venture Capital in a variety of roles, including CTO and executive-in-residence. His extensive communications experience includes founding Telicos Corp., a developer of 10Gb Ethernet over copper physical layer (PHY) technology, and Excess Bandwidth Corp., an xDSL PHY chipset company that was acquired by Virata Corp. At Virata, Pal was a vice president, responsible for xDSL PHY technology and IC product development. In addition, his communications industry experience includes key senior technical and technical management roles at ADSL and VDSL technology pioneer, Amati Communications Corp. (acquired by Texas Instruments), and senior technical positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he was involved in developing algorithms, architectures, ICs and systems for wire line as well as wireless communications. Pal started his carrier at Intel Corp., where he was on the 80286-microprocessor design engineering team.
Pal holds seven U.S. patents, has published more than 30 technical papers, is a Fellow of the IEEE and has served as a consulting professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University over the last 12 years. He received a B.Tech. (Honors) degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India; a M.S.E.E. degree from Washington State University; and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
