(Business News, 19 Nov 2009 )

EDN China, China's leading publication for the electronics design industry, has announced the results of the 2009 EDN China Innovation Award. This year saw a total of 95 companies and 181 products competing for the “Best Product” Award under nine technical categories. Twelve products from ten technology suppliers, including Analog Devices Inc., Altium Ltd, Altera Corp., Agilent Technologies Inc., Broadcom Corp., National Semiconductor Corp., NXP Semiconductors, Freescale Semiconductor Inc., STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments Inc., received “Best Product” Award, while 88 products landed with “Leading Product” Award, voted by the EDN China Innovation Award panel and editors, and registered online users.

Based on their innovations in the field of technology and services, six companies—PanSino, MC Devices, MEMSensing Microsystems, Haitai Electronic, Rigol and SBS—received the “Local Innovative Company” Award, while VINNOTECH received the “Editor's Choice” Award.

Technical support from distributors and excellent collaboration from electronics design engineers are key factors in electronic applications innovations. As a result, EDN China has created the “Engineer’s Favorite Distributor” Award, aimed at recognizing distributors who are engaged in component product distribution within China, and have provided highly efficient and quality technical support services for system vendors over the past year. Based on votes by engineers, six companies received “Engineer’s Favorite Distributor” Award: Arrow Asia Pac Ltd, Premier Electronics, Avnet Electronics Marketing, Guangzhou ZLG MCU Development Co. Ltd, Burnon International Ltd, and Shenzhen Secom Telecom Co. Ltd.

With China being the world’s biggest IC consumer market, the EDN China Innovation Award is particularly focusing on products and technologies favored by China’s electronics design engineers. Already in its fifth year, the EDN China Innovation Award has been garnering more and more attention within the electronics design circle in China.

The award selection process kicked off in May 2009. At the initial stage, participating companies signed up for the selection with their best products launched in the Chinese market between May 30, 2008 and May 30, 2009. Subsequently, an expert panel comprised of industry experts and EDN China’s senior editors nominated the product finalists, from which the final winners are chosen by EDN China’s registered website users through their votes. More than 200,000 registered website users were encourage to participate in the voting for this year’s selection process through EDNChina.com, the most active online community in China’s electronics design and development industry, which boasts over 320,000 registered users.
